My dear green friends, please look away. What you're about to see may hurt your eyes and your conscience.
My decorating self had a little battle with my environmental self. It was loud and ugly. And in the end - the decorator in me won. I'm about to pay people to perform a not so eco-friendly act . . . refinish my hardwood floors.
I need your help in selecting a stain. If I was photo-shop savvy, I would have these samples numbered. So let's pretend - I'll start from the left.
1. Medium Brown
2. Provincial
3. English Chesnut
4. Dark Walnut (top right)
5. Early American (bottom right)

Hey Alana,
I generally like darker wood (depending on the surroundings), so I might go with #1.

We have Early American. You can see it on this page. I really like it.
Darker the better...#5 is my choice.
I would say the darker, the better. We refinishd ours ten years ago---and they are almost black, which our designer recommended. It took a lot of nerve, but we still love them and they are beautiful. They make the rugs look wonderful!
But whatever you decide, I know your new home will be wonderful!
I usually like darker floors so I would go with #1 or #5.
I like #1. But, let me warn you if you have a light colored animal that sheds, the light colored hair/fur is very noticeable on darker wood. Ask me how I know? Dark Floor and white and brown dog. He is my nemesis!! What are ya gonna do, my kids love him.
They kind of start to look alike...I love dark wood though...
I'm definitely a fan of darker woods, so I love the Dark Walnut. And for flooring, I think lighter wood tones tend to blend into a room rather than stand out as well, so that's something to consider. Perhaps you could hunt for a non-toxic stain or finish or a company that uses them so you don't have to ditch your green dreams entirely :)
I like number 1 and 4, however it might depend on what you are putting in the room.
I like darker wood stains so I vote for #1. LMK what you decide! :)
I like dark wood too, so I would go with #1 or #4.
I say the darker the better. Keep in mind that the sun will fade it a little over the years, too. I'm wishing we had gone darker when we chose ours. It looks so rich and dramatic. Hope you'll show us pictures when it's done! -Julia
My vote is for one of the dark stains too. I like the richness in dark stains.
Oh no! What's going to happen if you actually have fallen in love with a light stain and all of your blogging friends have chosen dark?
Go with what you love, because you're the one who has to live with it and clean it. Good Luck with your choice.
