Taming Kid Clutter

We are fortunate to have a dedicated space that serves as the kids' playroom. It's in the basement where I can close the door and walk away if I don't feel like picking up. It's wonderful.

We purchased these drawers years ago from Ikea. They've always worked well because they are so deep - you can store a lot in them and have room to play on the top, too.

I used some 2x4 shipping labels to print the pictures and words of the toys in each drawer. I simply opened up each drawer, took the picture and pasted it into Microsoft Word.

These Pottery Barn shelves are great for displaying books. I try to rotate them so the kids always have something new to read.

This little pouch doesn't hold a whole lot, but it's a great place to tuck away all those small little pieces that are temporarily missing a home.

My grandfather made this wooden cradle for me. Now it's a great resting place for our stuffed animals. There's also room for a "parking garage" underneath.

You can also see how I transformed a closet into a changing station and our coat closet into a mini-mudroom.

Head on over to The Shabby Nest and The Pretty Organizer to see more creative ways of tackling kid clutter.

Ok, this is so great! Your toy organization system looks amazing! I guess luck had a little something to do with it, but you need to give yourself some credit! Great job, girl!

Wow! I am envious....I will send my kiddos over to play! Your basement is awesome. I love the pictures on the drawers with the words. I bought some of those labels but haven't gotten to taking and printing the pictures yet.

Would you be offended if I (lovingly) nicknamed you Martha? Thanks for making me feel inadequate...AGAIN. :)

great ideas, I love the drawer labels! By the way, it looks like you don't "don't feel like picking up" very often! Did that make sense?
Thanks for visiting my blog today and leaving such a nice comment. I hope you come back soon!

came by from the Kids Clutter Carnival - and I'm so glad I did!

We have a playroom, too - but now that all my kids are in double digits (the last two just turned 10), our toys are bigger! (ping pong, foosball, Wii). Enjoy seeing those Barbie cars while you can :)

I love your space looks, and you obviously have a lot of toys stored away! What a great place you've created!

What a fun toy room - I also label all of our toys with pictures and words. I love the bags on the back of the chairs - I always have a little something that needs a place. Great tips

I know i'm one in 19 comments, but maybe you'll read me! Thanks for the ideas for a kids playroom. For some reason your storage bins sparked an idea for my storage bins! I might try to paint or fabric ours so they're not ugly and clear, but look a little more "cleaner and nicer" like yours!
