Dark Walnut

Thank you so much for your comments and emails. You all were thinking the same thing I was - the darker the better. I decided to go with Dark Walnut.

We're leaving tomorrow for a week while they sand, stain and poly. I might not have Internet access while we're away so I'll post pictures of the finished floors when we get back.

Hopefully you're still feeling helpful because I have another design decision to make. Railing or No Railing . . . .

My vote is no railing, but I like open spaces...

My vote: Definitely no railing. I think they look outdated. For separating spaces, a pony wall is much more functional and modern, but getting rid of it altogether is also a way to make the space feel much larger.

No railing ... it opens up the space tons. :-) We just bought a house and tore down the pony wall that was at the end of the dining room...soooo much better!

No railing because I like the open space. Maybe instead, you could do thick half wall (12 inches) if it doesn't eat up too much space. A half wall that provides a nice countertop space could eventually be used for those breakable things that one day we might be able to put out again when the kids are grown! LMK if you want me to take a pic of ours for an idea!

I'm agreeing with the others and voting for "no railing." It makes it look so fresh and updated without it. Can't wait to see how your new floors look!! -Julia

My vote is no railing but I can see the value in having two more defined spaces if you choose to go that way, too. Can't wait to see the new floors! I love dark wood floors. Your blog is so much fun! Thanks for visiting me too! :)
