WFMW: Green Smoothies

I. eat. horribly.

Most days I eat my weight in goldfish and finish off my kids' PBJ sandwiches. I crave the high I get from my coca-cola, which always accompanies something salty . . . . . and sweet.

Eating this way is causing some serious problems and doesn't do much for the self esteem! I have no energy. I am cranky, and I am not losing any of the many pounds of baby weight I've been carrying around for the last 7 years!

Introducing the Green Smoothie. (click on the link for a how-to video or go up to the top of this page). I've been reading about them for awhile, but when I read my friend Laurel's post I knew I needed to give them a try. I don't love vegetables - I love these smoothies! When I drink one I know I'm doing something good for myself. It also fills me up for a few hours and gives me energy.

They are delicious and there are a lot of different ways you can make them. We have been using spinach, kale, bananas and frozen berries. Green Smoothie Girl has a lot of great tips.

We have our first CSA pick up soon so it'll be great to use our produce for something the whole family loves!

Check out more great ideas over at Shannon's place.

Maybe this is something you have to ease into, but the green smoothie is scaring me. I, too, have had trouble losing my baby weight and my sweeties are 23 and 24 now. Yowza.
I do the sweet, then salty diet. Thanks for the smootie girl link. :-)

Ok, the "green" part kinda creeps me out, but I am desperate; I will give it a try. Thanks!

I am so glad you are loving the green smoothies. I am adding more and more spinach each time I make them and I am realizing I crave greens. Crazy! Make sure to let us know if you come up with any yummy new combinations. My current fave is mango, spinach, and bananas. I freeze all the fruit first and it is so yummy and creamy!

Thanks for turning me onto this! I'm glad I found you and stopped by today. I'm going to give it a try. WE already do a lot of unsweetened, whole fruit smoothies with flax seed, so I'll just add some green!

This came at the right time for me!! I'll give it a try!

Is it as good as beer and wings?

DidiLyn - if you put in enough berries they override the green color of the spinach

Allie - I think we're gonna try collards next

Laura - thank you - I'm finding that I am craving them throughout the day so I might try to replace a traditional dinner with one a few nights a week

Luanne - believe me, before this the closest thing I got to green was green beans cooked with bacon

golightly - we put a little wheat germ in too

jennie - not quite as good as beer and wings, but believe it or not you will start to crave them

I love eating green vegetables, but unfortunately, my two-year-old daughter does not. I think I'm going to try feeding her a green smoothie and see what she thinks. For those of you turned off by the green color, could you try putting it in an opaque cup? Just an idea!

Green Smoothies ROCK!

I love adding cinnamon to mine, and sometimes nutmeg - YUM!!!

Cheers!

Are they really good? Really? Like compared to what? I might try, but I need some more convincing. It sounds like we have similar eating habits, especially the Coke and the only green vegetable being green beans with bacon!

I've never thought of this, but it looks like a great idea! Getting a blender or food processor is on my list to garage sale for this summer. I only have a tiny little magic bullet thing right now.

Oh, I am SO into the Green Smoothie goodness! I just posted several recipes at my blog for those interested. I've been on them since September and am amazed at how much better I feel! My skin is clear and glowing, eyes bright, starting to lose weight (especially belly fat!). Just love those Green Smoothies!
