Three R Thursday

Thursday is going to be dedicated to the 3 Rs:
REDUCE - REUSE - RECYCLE

REDUCE - make less waste in the first place.
REUSE - reuse items where possible, or find alternative uses for them.
RECYCLE - recycle as much as possible so the materials can be used to make something new.

Imagine what could happen if we all chose one R a week to focus on to make a small change. Chances are you are already doing things you aren't even aware of that can make a difference one way or the other.

Last night Bob posted an old printer on Freecycle and someone is picking it up today! YEAH

Have you done something this week to REDUCE, REUSE or RECYCLE? If so, let us know about it so we can get some new ideas! Kudos to my brother for making several changes in an effort to go green!

If you didn't get a chance to do something this week - what are you planning for next week to make a difference?

Hey Alana-
I love your blog! You're right, it does open up a new world. If you don't mind, I am adding you to my "blogs I enjoy" list.

This is practical encouragement to not get overwhelmed with trying to do everything at once; rather, to focus on one a week. That's so doable.

One thing I've done is buy flour in bulk at the health food store and start using reusable cloth shopping bags. And we shop at places like Goodwill first for almost any item of clothing or household accessory (but we live in a part of town that donates great stuff, so our Goodwill has top name brands on every rack).

I remember appreciating the ideas in the Tightwad Gazette books, by Amy Dasczyn (sp?), the "Frugal Zealot." Those were big in the '90s, and I've seen the books at the library (we use the library a LOT, a great way to reduce...but we do buy used books, too). She had great ideas for reusing things and everyday recycling (not just sending it to the curb for recycling, but creative uses).

You've made me think. This week, I'll try to do something in one of the three "Rs."
